Apartment building in Sopi quarter
Year: 2025 spring semester (III year)
Typology: Apartment building
Location: Tallinn, city center
The apartment building planned for the Sopi Quarter is located along Koidu Street, historical area in Tallinn characterised predominantly by wooden buildings with gabled and mansard roofs. In response to this context, the architectural design reinterprets these traditional roof forms in a contemporary way.
The building comprises four storeys, with its defining architectural feature being a staircase volume that projects from the main façade, complemented by smaller projecting elements. To create a balanced composition and emphasise the building's geometric form, both the roof and the façade are clad in black standing-seam metal. The balconies are distinguished from the rest of the façade by cladding them in thermally modified spruce, adding warmth and material contrast to the overall design.

The building contains a total of 11 apartments, comprising two-, three-, and four-bedroom units. Each apartment has been carefully designed to maximise its connection to the surrounding landscape, ensuring that every room enjoys direct views of the surrounding greenery.
