Bus stop ,,Koond''

Year: 2025 autumn semester (IV year)

Typology: Bus stop

Location: Tartu municipality

In cooperation: Romet Trommel

Koond is a modular bus stop designed for the "Modular Bus stop Design" competition organized by the Municipality of Tartu.

The concept behind Koond (eng. To gather together) is a strong, close-knit community. The shelter is composed of multiple prefabricated panels with different cut-out profiles that are assembled into a unified structure offering a variety of functions. Much like a community standing shoulder to shoulder, the panels are interconnected and mutually supportive, creating a welcoming, weather-protected space for people waiting for public transport as part of their daily journey.

The panels are constructed from C-CLT (Circular Cross-Laminated Timber), a cross-laminated timber product manufactured from reclaimed wood. The use of C-CLT promotes the reuse of timber while retaining the high structural strength characteristic of conventional CLT.

Each wall and roof section of the panels is identical, meaning that every panel is compatible with every other panel. This modular approach allows for a wide range of possible configurations, enabling the Koond bus stopto be adapted to different locations in the municipality and functional requirements.
