Half moon resistance
Year: 2023 spring semester (II year)
Typology: Micro private house
Location: Africa(sahel)
In cooperation: Karita Raid, Marleen Valtna, Artur Luure
Designed as part of the Buildner MICROhome international architecture competition, the project is a modular housing concept for people in Africa who are fighting against rapidly expanding Sahara Desert within the Big Green line project. The aim was to provide temporary shelter to workers while enabling the formation of adaptable communities along the desert edge through hexagonal units that can be connected to one another.
Thanks to its modular nature, the building units can be quickly and easily assembled, allowing communities to relocate when necessary. The design also incorporates systems for collecting and storing water and solar energy, ensuring a level of self-sufficiency in harsh desert conditions.
In addition, the project uses lightweight yet durable materials, carefully selected to withstand the high temperatures of the Sahara and to resist damage from insect pests common in the region.
