Strata
Year: 2024 autumn semester (III year)
Typology: Office building
Location: Tallinn, city center
In cooperation: Sarah-Elisabeth Haidak, Kärol Minnik
The concept for the office building planned along Tuvi Park in central Tallinn is based on creating a strong connection between the future building and the park, ensuring that even people on the upper floors can benefit from and experience nature.
A second key principle was to integrate the building into the urban context of Suur-Ameerika Street, where it sits alongside a series of long, continuous façades, while simultaneously enriching and layering the street-level pedestrian experience.
The office building, named “Strata,” establishes a seamless transition toward the park through terraces filled with greenery that open toward the landscape. From the park side, the building can be entered at multiple points directly from park level. To further smooth the transition between the park and Suur-Ameerika Street, an atrium runs through the building, acting as a spatial connector between the two environments.
While moving along Suur-Ameerika Street, the building’s façade introduces layering and a sense of playfulness by positioning different façade elements at varying distances from the street line.
To bring vertical greenery into the context of the surrounding Stalin-era buildings, the office building incorporates a façade solution designed to support and encourage the growth of climbing plants.

The office building “Strata” is a six-storey structure in which each level is set back in a stepped formation toward Suur-Ameerika Street, with every floor having a smaller footprint than the one below.
Within each floor, both corridors and office spaces are designed with an emphasis on diversity and greenery, aiming to challenge the conventional perception of office buildings and to introduce varied working environments throughout the building.
Each level also features a spacious, landscaped terrace opening toward the park, reinforcing the connection between the workplace and the surrounding natural environment.
